IT security firm trusts Open Source inside and out
An Atlanta IT security company is finding success by employing Open Source software, not just in the network security appliance it sells, but on its own desktops and servers. Two challenges they had to cope with, were hiring of staff with Open Source experience and getting the clients they were interfacing with to accept the usage of Open Source tools. Building a business using Open Source software requires understanding, and there is a lot of misunderstanding.
Zeropoint.IT not only encourages the use of Open Source software at it's customers, we also extensively use Open Source at the company itself. All developers work on Linux machines, the servers are running FreeBSD. Even the management and the sales department are using Linux, mostly. For internal communication, we use solutions built on Asterisk, XMPP, wiki's and LaTeX. Eat your own dog food, they say, and we are doing just that!
